Lüneburg is the salt city in the north. For over 1,000 years, the town's life was dominated by salt. It made it rich and powerful. It was not until 1980 that the salt works, one of the largest industrial operations in Europe, closed its doors. Since then, the German Salt Museum/industrial monument Saline Lüneburg has been a reminder of its glorious past.
Visitors can learn interesting, fascinating and curious facts about salt in a vivid and not at all ‘museum-like’ way. The museum does not keep its distance, it arouses curiosity. Curious about the fascinating world of salt, the small white mineral with great charisma.

In the Scharnebeck climbing forest, you can experience excitement and fun at breathtaking heights on swaying ropes, bridges and beams.
At a height of 3 - 4 metres for the little ones and up to 15 metres for the bravest, 70 fantastic stations await you. The absolute highlight is the free fall from a height of 15 metres (!) and the zip wire course with a total length of 435 metres!
Lüneburg Town Hall is a storyteller, administrative centre, landmark and piece of jewellery all in one. With its 259 rooms, it is one of the most outstanding architectural monuments in northern Germany and is the largest medieval town hall in the north. The construction of the town hall began around 1230 and was repeatedly modified and extended over the centuries. Thanks to its 700-year building history, all traces of the different eras have been left behind in the town hall: The gothic and renaissance arbour, prince's hall, old archive, chancellery and mayor's chamber all date from this period. Masterful woodwork adorns the large council chamber, which is one of the largest Renaissance halls in Germany. The Hall of Homage and the market façade date from the Baroque period. The tower houses a clockwork with a carillon made of Meissen porcelain.
The Lüneburg Heath is the largest contiguous area of heathland in Central Europe. When the heath blooms in August and September, the landscape radiates its very special charm. The vibrant purple of millions of flowers, interspersed with the lush green of the junipers and pines and the silvery white of the birch trees colour the entire region.
